Nanoseconds explores fragments of specific moments captured and experienced every day. Contemporary life is a series of many thousands of fragments filled with people, places, objects, ideas, and emotions and this illuminated body of work focuses on a few moments in a life full of millions of rich but fleeting visual images. In an increasingly fast paced world these moments are often lived and forgotten as soon as they happen. Juxtaposition between the traditional cut and paste method to create six-panelled photo media collages exposed onto light boxes creates a beautiful render depicting the paramount force of visual imagery in our society today.

My body of work encourages the audience to stop for a moment and travel through the collages focusing on the small detail and focusing on hidden messages. German collagist Hannah Höch was a major influence through her feminist collage artworks that critiqued the prevailing society and challenged the status of women in her time. Paula Scher’s impact on the graphic design industry through focusing on typography and in breaking from the traditional advertisements of NYC public arts institutions also influenced my design. The future won’t be perfect. We will not always succeed or be happy and fulfilled. But we can be alert and present to possibilities and to seek out ways to connect, to care and to slow down.
